SARAH EDIGER HINZ

Sarah Ediger Hinz, daughter of J. H. Ediger and Catharine Bergen, was born January 16, 1897, near Inman, Kansas. In 1903 she moved with her parents to Oklahoma, where they first settled in Caddo county and then later in the northern part of Washita county.

On March 21, 1915 she was baptized upon her confession of faith by Elder John Flaming, and became a member of the Bergthal Mennonite church, whose faithful member she remained until her death.

She was joined in holy matrimony with Fred Hinz on November 17, 1915, who preceded her in death in 1943. This union was blessed with seven children, who are all living and came to pay their last respects to their dear mother. The family lived near the Bergthal church most of the time and for the last seven years in Corn.

Not only the children will greatly miss her, but also members of the ladies' sewing society, of which she was a constant and ever busy member. Often till late into the ngiht [sic] her busy fingers would ply the needle in some work of love. Her pastor will miss her, for she was always in her place and an inspiring listener; always ready with comfort and encouragement. The church will miss her as an example of a good Christina and a good mother.

Although of good health in her younger years, the rigors of pioneer life undetermined [sic] her health. For years she had heart and liver trouble. Last fall she was taken to the hospital to have a tumor removed. After a rapid recovery she had a relapse and was very ill for several weeks. On Wednesday, February 10, she was again taken to the hospital in a serious condition. Although the doctors and nurses did everything possible and many earnest prayers ascended to the Throne of Grace it was the Heavenly Father's will that her earthly pilgrimage be ended. She quietly passed to her eternal rest on Saturday, February 16 at 11:52 P. M. at the age of 49 years and one month.

Her last few days of earthly life were made more pleasant by the return of her son Bobby from Europe.

She leaves to mourn her death her aged mother, Mrs. J. H. Ediger (her father preceded her in death in 1944), seven children, four sons and three daughters, Elmer and family of Turpin, Okla.; Ruth, Mrs. Henry Fransen Jr.; Clinton, Okla.; Alfred and family of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Verna, Mrs. Allen Flaming, Colony, Okla.; Robert, Norma Jean, and Jimmy of the home in Corn; two sons-in-law, two daughter-in-law, five grandchildren; two sisters; Mrs. Henry Hinz and Mrs. Art Hinz; and five brothers, Barney, Paul, Cornelius, Albert, and William, all of western Oklahoma, besides a large circle of friends and other relatives.
