Henry D. Hiebert Sr.

CALICO ROCK, Ark. — Henry D. Hiebert Sr., 88, died Friday (Jan. 5, 1996). He was the father of Ruthann Hiebert of North Newton.

He was born March 9, 1907, near Goessel to Marie (Janzen) and David Hiebert.

He lived in Medford, Okla., Perryton, Texas, and other places in the Midwest but spent most of his life near Newport, Wash., and Aberdeen, Idaho. His work included logging, building roads, farming, making German sausage and food processing. He volunteered with the Mennonite Disaster Service in Rapid City, S. D., Hopi Reservation in Arizona, Lame Deer in Montana and Teton Dam and Pocatelli [sic] in Idaho.

He was a member of the Mennonite Men's Chorus and a life-long member of the General Conference Mennonite Church, where he held many leadership positions. He recently moved from Wenatchee, Wash., to Calico Rock, Ark.

Other survivors include his wife, Zella (Cox); seven other children, Eva Marie Klink of Ft. Collins, Colo., Henry D. Hiebert Jr. and LeDean Lentzner, both of Arvada, Colo., Linda Kaye Hiebert Sekiguchi of San Jose, Calif., David Ray Hiebert of Scottdale, Penn., Elsie Louise Lamp of Pocatello, Idaho, and Erna Joy Haskins of Caldwell, Idaho; one brother, Gus M. Hiebert of Newport, Wash. (Spring Valley); seven step-children; seven grandchildren; 23 step-grandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Doris Hiebert in 1979; five brothers; and two sisters.

The funeral was at 1 p. m. today at the Calico Rock, Arkansas, Mennonite Fellowship. Burial will be at 9:15 a. m. Saturday at the Homestead Cemetery in Aberdeen, Idaho. Memorial fellowship and pot luck lunch will be at 10 a. m. Saturday at the Aberdeen First Mennonite Church fellowship hall in Pocatello.

Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p. m. Friday at the Wheatley Mortuary in Pocatello, Idaho.
