MRS. D. G. HIEBERT
Mrs. Marie Dirks Hiebert, daughter of Wilhelm and Helena Neufeld Dirks, was born in South Russia on March 31, 1874. At the age of ten she migrated to the United States with her parents to establish a new home. After two years in Nebraska the family moved to Minnesota where she spent the remainder of her life.
She was baptized upon confession of her faith in Jesus Christ on July 25, 1909, and became a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church of Mt. Lake, of which she remained a faithful member until her departure. She attended the public school here, and later assisted Rev. J. J. Balzer in the Mountain Lake German bible school, teaching the lower grades. She also taught several years in rural schools.
On June 19, 1898, she was united in marriage with David G. Hiebert, who preceded her in death in 1955 after 57 years of companionship. Seven children were born to this union, of whom two died in infancy.
The past year she made her home with her daughter, Helen, Mrs. Ray Setterlund, in Pipestone, and during this time it was her privilege to visit all of the children in their homes. Her health was comparatively good until the end. She attained an age of 84 years, five months and 25 days.
She leaves to mourn her departure one son, Orlando, of Montrose, Calif.; Olga, Mrs. Gerhard Wiens of Kansas City, Mo., Eleanor, Mrs. Henry W. Schroeder of Cincinnati, Ohio, Helen, Mrs. Ray Setterlund of Pipestone, and Florence, Mrs. Michael Adams of Western Springs, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; her only sister, Mrs. Anuta Dirks Loewens here in Mt. Lake, and many friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 29, in Bethel church, Rev. Walter Gering officiating. A mixed octet sang, accompanied by Mrs. Willard Friesen. Interment was made in the Mt. Lake cemetery.
