Irvin Leland Hiebert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hiebert of Burns, Kans., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 9:45 P. M.
He was born April 23, 1925, in the Goessel Hospital. At the age of five he went to the Kindergarten in Newton. When he was eleven years old he was operated for appendicitis, and it was then for the first time, that the beginning of another disease became noticeable, which after a few years was found to be a pituitary tumor.
For years this caused severe headache. But he found relief for this after a few years, so that his parents had some hope for recovery. They consulted a number a number of good doctors, who treated him, but from the beginning gave little hope. Nevertheless he entered high school, first in Goessel and then in Walton. In March, 1941, he was taken to Kansas City to a specialist, who also had no cure for him, although he did his best. The parents also tried electrical treatment in Wichita, which helped a little, but not much. The last two weeks he went down fast, and spoke repeatedly of his heavenly home, and that he was not afraid to go. He still had the ambition to finish reading though the Bible, but could not complete it.
He told his parents not to be scared, and that he would not even have a tear here for the happiness of going home. He prayed much, and the last afternoon he said a hearty farewell to the family, saying that it would not be long, and that he had no ill feeling against any one. His favorite song was "My Mother's Bible.' His plan plan [sic] was to join the chruch [sic] in the near future.
His age was 17 years, 5 months, and 6 days. He leaves to mourn his death his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hiebert, two brothers Raymond and Elgin, one sister Velma, one grandfather, two grandmothers, aunts and uncles and a host of friends. We expect to meet him in the home above.
"My Father's house is built on high,
Far, far above the starry sky;
When from this earthly prison free,
That heavenly mansion mine shall be."
— The bereaved family.
