— Relatives here of Gus H. Hiebert of Burns were saddened recently by the news of the tragic death of Mr. Hiebert in an auto accident which occurred five miles east of Peabody on Tuesday evening, Dec. 4. He died instantly when the car he was driving failed to make the turn at a dead-end of the highway and crashed into a ditch. Mrs. Hiebert was brought to Axtell hospital with serious injuries, and a son, LeRoy, and Mr. Hiebert's brother, Cornelius, were hospitalized with minor injuries. The deceased was 51 years of age and is survived by two daughters in addition to his wife and son. Funeral services took place at the Tabor Mennonite church north of Newton on Monday afternoon, with Rev. Henry Goosen of Burns and Rev. H. B. Schmidt in charge.

GUSTAV HIEBERT

Gustav Hiebert, son of H. P. Hiebert and Maria Janzen Hiebert, was born November 3, 1893, and died in an automobile accident December 3, 1946, reaching the age of 53 years, one month and one day.

He was baptized by Elder P. H. Richert on May 11, 1913, and received as a member into the Tabor Church, June 2, 1946, he and his wife transferred their membership to the Elbing Mennonite church, of which he was a faithful member to the end.

He was married to Anna Nickel on May 9, 1924. She, together with their infant daughter, preceded him in death June 19, 1925. Again he was happily married to Maria Buller on February 12, 1928. This union was blessed with three children, Lorena, Eldon, and LeRoy.

He received his education in a country school and chose farming as his occupation. He farmed in the Sand Creek district until he bought a farm near Burns.

He was a kind and loving husband and father. Many sweet memories will linger with us.

He had three brothers and three sisters. His brother Gerhard preceded him in death at the age of three years. Peter lives on a farm near Hillsboro. Cornelius has made his home with Gustav. Eva (Mrs. H. B. Schmidt) and Mary (Mrs. D. I. Schroeder) also live on a farm, and Tina (Mrs. Benj. Becker) lives in California. He leaves one brother-in-law, Peter Buller, and four sisters-in-law, Lena (Mrs. Peter Abrams), Agatha (Mrs. Dick Heidebrecht), Lizzie (Mrs. Henry Schmidt), and Tina (Mrs. Herman Ediger). One brother-in-law, Henry Schmidt, preceded him in death. He also leaves Mrs. Ben Nickel and her family. She is the mother of Anna, his first wife. Besides these relatives mentioned, he leaves a host of other friends and relatives.

Some Time We’ll Understand

Not now, but in the coming years,
   It may be in the better land,

   And there, some time, we’ll understand.
