Fatally Injured In Crash Near Hillsboro

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR FRANK G. HIEBERT HELD SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Hillsboro, Kan. — Funeral services were held at the Alexanderfeld Church near here last Sunday afternoon for Frank G. Hiebert, 69, who suffered fatal injuries in a collision southwest of here Tuesday, Dec. 17. Ministers Jona Dyck of Hillsboro and Reuben Koehn of Goltry, Okla. officiated.

Mr. Hiebert, well-known retired farmer here, was coming out of a farm driveway onto a country road when his car was struck by another car driven by his great-nephew, Allen Gene Hiebert,16, of Route 1, Hillsboro. Investigating officers said the crash was unavoidable.

The elder Mr. Hiebert was brought to Salem hospital where he died a short time later. The young man was kept at the hospital over night, but apparently was not seriously hurt.

FRANK G. HIEBERT

Our dear husband and father, Frank G. Hiebert, son of Peter and Anna Goossen Hiebert, was born June 5, 1888, at Rosenort, Manitoba, and departed this life Dec. 17, 1957, at 4:00 p.m. Death resulted through a car accident at the age of 69 years, seven months and 12 days.

In 1890 father's parents with their family moved to Kansas, settling on a farm four miles southeast of Hillsboro. Here father grew to manhood and received his elementary education in the Hope Valley School. the promise to his Christian mother that he would repent and serve the Lord he kept by the grace of God. Through much prayer and supplication, and reading the Scriptures and meditating on them, he found forgiveness of his sins in the blood of Jesus his Lord and Saviour. He was baptized Dec. 8, 1911, in the Alexanderfeld Church (Church of God in Christ, Mennonite) by Minister John D. Dueck.

On Oct. 4, 1914, father was joined in holy matrimony to Agnes Hoeppner, our dear mother. To this union two sons and four daughters were born. A son, Paul, in infancy, and a son-in-law Levi Nickel, preceded them in death. In 1919 father purchased the home farm which remained their home, with the exception of several years at Windon, Calif. and the latter years in the city of Hillsboro. Mother passed to her reward Sept. 20, 1953, after they had shared joys and sorrows nearly 39years. This bereavement left father lonely, but trusting he looked to the Lord.

He found a second companion in Agnes Nikkel. They were married Dec. 26, 1954, at Inman, Kansas. He was a kind and affectionate husband, ever ready to do what he could for his wife, especially in her recent illness. His sincere Christian life and admonitions to serve the Lord have meant much to the children. During his whole Christian life he was active in Sunday school and a regular attendant at worship services and other christian activities.

After father's parents died leaving his youngest brother and sister, Dan and Margaret, without a home, our parents opened their hearts and home for them until they established their own homes. Again after the death of Frieda's husband, Levi Nickel, Frieda and her son Howard made their home with them for about ten years. Those who knew father best will remember him as one who chose honesty, truthfulness and faithfulness as Christian principles of life. He often confessed his failings and shortcomings. Recently again he held inventory of his life and felt the Lord's nearness and forgiveness and said he was not only ready to go to the communion table, but also felt ready to die. Even though we are unable to understand the why and wherefore of his sudden departure, we believe it is well with his soul and trust him in the keeping of Him who had power over live and death. We hope to meet him in heaven by the grace of God.

Those mourning his sudden departure are his deeply sorrowing wife Agnes; son Alvin and wife Leah; daughters Edna and husband John Eck of Copeland, Frieda and husband Emerson Litwiller of Middleton, Mich., Stella and husband Jona Nickel of Louisville, Georgia, Ruth and husband Robert Martens of Conway, Kansas; 25 grandchildren; three brothers and their families and two sisters and their families; two sisters-in-law and their families, and many relatives and friends. — The Family.
