MRS. ANNA HIEBERT

Mrs. Anna Hiebert was born Sept. 15, 1876, at Hillsboro, Kans., and passed away at her home in Upland, Calif. on Aug. 25 at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 21 days.

She grew to womanhood near Hillsboro, was baptized and joined the Evenfeld M. B. church. In Feb.1901 she was married to John A. Hiebert, also of Hillsboro, with Rev. H. H. Adrian officiating.

In 1905 the family moved to Hooker, Okla. where both became members of the General Conference Mennonite church. In 1912 the family came to Upland and made this their permanent home. Her husband preceded her in death in 1949 and since that time she had lived alone. She was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Upland and despite her advanced years was very active in the Missionary Society and regular in her church attendance.

Mrs. Hiebert received the call to her heavenly home in the stillness of the night while asleep in her bed. The previous day she had been her usual self visited with neighbors and looked after her household duties. When she failed to appear the next morning neighbors grew concerned about her. By mid-afternoon entrance was gained into the house and she was found dead. Authorities established that death had come approximately eight hours earlier.

Funeral services were held in the First Mennonite Church the following Tuesday with Rev. Gordon Kaufman officiating in the absence of the pastor, Paul Goering. She had chosen her own text, and the women's chorus sang requested songs. The profusion of flowers spoke of the high esteem in which she was held.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. T. C. Boshert [sic Boshart] of Cucumonga [sic' Cucamonga], and Mrs. S. A. Piety of Whittier; four sons, Wallace F. of Lancaster, Rufus A. of Ontario, Vernon J. of El Centro, and Lawrence E. of Bown; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Harms of Upland and Mrs. Katherine Krause of Divine, Texas; a brother, David Duerksen of Kansas City, Mo.; and 14 grandchildren. The brother and sister from a distance were unable to attend the funeral,, as were also two grandchildren, Sharon Boshert [sic Boshart], who had just recently returned to the Bethel Deaconess Hospital where she is in training, and her brother Bruce who had been in Pax service and has not as yet returned from Europe.

Interment was made in the Bellevue cemetery by the side of her husband.
