92-YR.-OLD HOME RESIDENT DIES

Harrisburg, Ore. — Funeral services for John Heyerly, 92, were held at the Fairview (Old) Mennonite Church near Albany on May 10.

Mr. Heyerly was a resident of the Mennonite Home for Aged at the time of his death. He was nearing his 93rd birthday.

JOHN S. HEYERLY

John S. Heyerly, son of John and Elizabeth Schneck Heyerly, was born near Dalton, in Wayne County, Ohio on June 4,1865. He passed away May 8, 1958, at the Mennonite Home for the Aged near Albany, Oregon. He attained the age of 92 years, 11 months and four days.

At the age of 13 he moved from Ohio to Oregon settled near Salem. In 1897 he moved near Albany where he resided until the time of his death.

He accepted Christ as his personal Saviour in his youth. He united with the Fairview Mennonite Church where he was a faithful member, and regularly attended when his health permitted. He loved music and enjoyed singing very much. In the later years of his life he spent much of his time with a hymn book in his hands, singing the hymns he learned to love through the years of his life.

In 1897 he married Elizabeth Neuschwander, and she passed away in 1899. In 1900 he married Katie Erb, who preceded him in death in 1941. Two sons, Dan and Jesse, and one daughter, Amanda Nofziger, also preceded him in death.

Surviving children are two daugters [sic], Mrs. Bertha Schrock and Adeline Heyerly of Lebanon, Oregon; seven sons, Ed, Elmer and Percy of Albany, Ernest of Tangent, Joe of Halsey, and Melvin and Wilmer of Winton, Calif.; 30 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Savage of Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Fairview Mennonite Church on May 10 in charge of N. M. Birkey, N. A. Lind and Henry Gerig. Interment was made in the Knox Butte Cemetery.
