Three Little Boys Perish When Ontario Farmhouse Burns

Desboro, Ont. — The three small sons of Emery and Mary Hershberger of the Amish settlement here perished Jan. 19 when flames destroyed the family's farmhouse.

The parents fired up the stoves in the house and went to the barn to do the morning chores, leaving the boys to sleep until they returned. Neighbors across the road later saw that the house was on fire and notified the Hershbergers, but the flames and smoke had already filled the log structure.

The boys were age three, two and 11 months. Remains of two of them were found in the ruins four days later.
