Prominent Geophysicist Dies at Grantsville, Md.

Goshen, Ind. — Funeral services for John Hershberger, 67, prominent government geophysicist of Grantsville, Md., were conducted Dec. 28 at the Goshen College Mennonite Church.

Services had been held the day before at the Maple Grove Conservative Mennonite Church at Grantsville. Mr. Hershberger died at the Goodwill Home there Dec. 25, having been a patient at the Home the past 18 months. He had been in ill health four years.

Mr. and Mrs. Hershberger had built a new home on Gra Roy Drive in Goshen and planned to move here.

A graduate of Goshen College Mr. Hershberger took advanced work at several colleges and universities. He was employed by the U. S. Coast and Geodetic Survey. He had worked in Alaska, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and took part in the U. S. atomic program in Nevada, Einewetok [sic Eniwetok] and Cape Kennedy as a seismologist.

Survivors include his widow, the former Helen Kuhns, two sons and one grandson.
