BERNHARD HENRY HEPPNER

Bernhard Henry Heppner was born to Henry and Justina (Wiens) Heppner on August 11, 1883, in Morden, Manitoba. At the age of 11 he moved with his parents to Laird, Saskatchewan. In 1905 he was married to Sarah Loewen of nearby Brotherfield. This union was blessed with seven daughters and six sons. They spent 47 years farming in the Laird area. After retirement they moved to Laird and later to Hepburn where they enjoyed the home and personal care of their daughters, Rose and Mary. For almost 64 years, they shared the joys and sorrows of life.

Bernhard Heppner was born again during the 1904 revival meetings, conducted by Rev. Henry Voth. Several years later he was baptized and received into the fellowship of the Laird Church. He loved the Lord, and by his prayers and loving influence always manifested concern for the spiritual welfare of his family.

He spent the last eleven months of his life in the Sunnyside Nursing Home, Saskatoon. On April 29, after three weeks of serious illness, he passed into the presence of his Lord. He was predeceased by two sons, Jake and Abe. Left to mourn his passing are his wife; one sister (Mrs. Agnes Hamm); seven daughters, Mrs. Martha Tiessen, Clearbrook, B.C., Mrs. Helen Sawatsky, Bassano, Alta., Mrs. Justina Hinman, Langley, B.C., Mrs. Agnes Block, Three Hills, Alta., Mrs. Anne Ellergodt, missionary in Malaysia, Miss Rosella Heppner and Miss Mary Heppner, both of Hepburn; four sons, Henry of Hepburn, Herb of Newmarket, Ont., Peter of Laird, Sask., and Ben, missionary in Haiti; forty-four grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
