Two and One-half Year Old Lad Loses Life Thru Electrocution

MOST UNUSUAL ACCIDENT OCCURRED LAST WEEK AT BELLEVILLE, PENN.

Belleville, Pa. — On Sunday, January 24, shortly before the noon hour, at the home of George and Enid Detwiler Henry, who reside with Mrs. Henry's mother, Mrs. T. J. Peachey, at the Belleville Green House, known also as "Ivy Crest," a most unusual and distressing and fatal accident befell their two and o-half year old son, John Warner Henry.

The little lad was playing in the home and had a small metal screw driver in his hand. He pushed the tool into an electric socket, causing a current to pass through his little body, which brought almost instantaneous death by electrocution.

He was alone in the room when the accident happened but his mother found him soon after. She said that she had been going about her work of preparing the Sunday dinner in the kitchen and that the boy was playing about the floor in an adjoining room.

There was a burn on the palm of the child's right hand, and a burn on the tip of his left index finger. The assumption is that he grounded the current with the tips of his fingers of his left hand and in so doing was electrocuted.

He is survived by his parents, one sister, Elizabeth, who is 5 years of age, and his grandmother. He was a member of the cradle Roll of the Maple Grove Mennonite Sunday School taught by Miss Twila Kauffman. he was born July 20, 1940 and was aged 2 years 6 months 4 days.

Funeral services were conducted at the home, Tuesday, January 26, 1:30 P. M., in charge of Rev. Aaron Mast, pastor of the Maple Grove Mennonite Church. Burial was in Belleville Mennonite cemetery. — Belleville Times.
