Hillsboro, Kan. — Word was received here that David Hein, 74, died on Jan. 11 at Fairview, Okla.

He was the father of Rev. Marvin Hein, pastor of the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren church and now on a five-month sabbatical leave for study in California. Also surviving are the widow of the Fellowship Home at Fairview and one daughter, Mrs. Lyndon Wahl of Fairview.

Mr. Hein had been in ill health for many years, but the immediate cause of death was complications from influenza.

DAVID HEIN

David Hein was born on March 29, 1900 near Isabella, Okla. to John J. and Susan Kliewer Hein. He attended elementary school in that community, received Christ as Saviour in 1916, and became a member of the South Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church.

He was married on April 24, 1921 to Maria Suderman and they began their life together on a farm south of Fairview. Less than two years later they moved to a farm southeast of Fairview where they lived for about eight years. In 1930 they returned to the farm where they had begun their married life.

During these years he became actively involved in the music program of the church. He was chosen to serve as director of the choir and male chorus on a number of occasions, and either directed or sang in the church choir for 26 years. In 1932 he helped organize the Melody Four Quartet, whose ministry was widespread and included singing at more than 150 funeral services.

His active life and ministry began to be curtailed in 1944 when he learned he was suffering from Parkinson's disease. The gradual deterioration of his body necessitated retirement from the farm in 1959, when our parents moved into Fairview. He continued his interest in farming and life in general, but slowly his physical condition worsened until it was necessary for them to move into the Fellowship Home in 1970.

He spent the last five years of his life virtually bedfast. One of the highlights of our family came, however, during those years when our parents were able to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in 1971. In spite of his long illness, we are grateful to God for the alertness of mind and cheerfulness of spirit he was able to maintain until a few days before his death. He was called into the presence of the Lord on Jan. 11, 1975, at the Fairview Hospital. He reached the age of 74.

Preceding him in death were one brother, John, and one sister, Susie. Surviving are his wife; two children and their families Marvin and Mary Helen Hein of Hillsboro, Kan. and Frances, Mrs. Lyndon Wahl and husband of Fairview; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and three sisters, Mrs. J. C. Grunau of Hillsboro, Mrs. A. B. Eitzen and Mrs. David P. Martens, both of Fairview. — The Family.
