Early-Day Settler In Western Oklahoma Dies

Corn, Okla. — Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Heidebrecht, 80, an early-day settler in this western Oklahoma area, were held Dec. 20 at the Bethel Mennonite Church near Hydro. Rev. Henry Hege of Geary officiated.

A native of Burrton, Kansas, Mrs. Heidebrecht was the former Lena Hinz. She came to the Corn community with her parents as a child. The year following her marriage to Abraham Heidebrecht in 1901, they moved to a farm south of Hydro where they continued to live until 1938. Mr. Heidebrecht died in 1940.

Mrs. Heidebrecht moved from Hydro to the Corn Home for Aged in 1959, and more recently was cared for at Weatherford where she died Dec. 17. A brief service was conducted at a funeral home there Tuesday forenoon, Rev. J. K. Warkentin officiating.

Surviving are four daughters and three sons and their families, one brother and one sister.

MRS. LENA HEIDEBRECHT

Lena Heidebrecht, daughter of Emil and Lena (Dalke) Heinz [sic Hinz], was born Jan. 25,1880 in Burrton, Kan. and died Dec. 17, 1960, in the nursing home at Weatherford, Okla. While still a young girl the family moved to Oklahoma, settling near Corn in Washita County. Here mother grew to womanhood.

In 1899 she was baptized upon her confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and became a member of the Bergtal Mennonite Church near Corn.

On May 23, 1901 she was united in marriage with Abraham Heidebrecht in Corn. This union was blessed with seven children. In 1902 the young couple moved to Caddo County and settled near Hydro, Okla. where they became members of the Bethel Mennonite Church. Mother remained a member of this church until her death. In 1938 they retired from the farm and moved to Hydro.

A great sorrow came into mother's life when in 1940 father passed away. She resided in Hydro until June 1959 when she was taken to the home for the aged in Corn and later to the nursing home in Weatherford where she died. She reached the age of 80 years, 10 months and 21 days.

She leaves to mourn her passing her seven children, Amanda, Mrs. Dave Eitzen of Upland, Calif., Walter Heidebrecht of Hydro, Matilda, Mrs. Pete Ratzlaff of Burbank, Calif., Dora, Mrs. Frank Buller of Denver, Colo., Emil Heidebrecht of Hydro, Louise, Mrs. Art Warkentin of Geary, Okla., and Allen Heidebrecht of Abilene, Tex.; one sister, Mrs. Matilda Dalke, and one brother, Emil Heinz [sic Hinz], both of Corn. One adopted brother, Dan Hinz of Enid Okla., and three sisters, Marie Dick, Elizabeth Schmidt and Augusta Horn, preceded her in death. Also surviving are11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren besides a large circle of the relatives and friends.

Mother belonged to the heroic band of pioneer women who suffered the rigors of early life in this state. Now she is at home where their is no pain and no worry, at rest with the Lord. — The Children.
