HAUPTMANN EXECUTED FOR LINDBERGH CRIME

Steadfastly asserting his innocence, Bruno Hauptmann, convicted kidnapper of the Lindbergh baby, died in the electric chair in the New Jersey State prison at Trenton last Friday evening. His death came after several years of legal delay, in which prominent officials of the state of new Jersey had become involved. After his arrest several years ago, it was found that Hauptmann had in his possession nearly $125,000 of Lindbergh ransom money, which finally resulted in his conviction and death. Two Lutheran ministers sought his conversion during his imprisonment and he professed that he could die at "peace with God and man". Whether guilty or innocent, public sentiment regarding the extended legal process has frequently given expression to the fact that it is a dangerous thing to retain money tainted with the blood of an innocent child.
