LAWRENCE DALE HATHAWAY

In loving remembrance of our dear little nephew, Lawrence Dale Hathaway, son of Oliver and Ruby (Greaser) Hathaway. He was born near Palmyra, Mo., Sept. 23, 1951, passed away at Barnes hospital, St. Louis, Mo., March 23, 1954, age two years and six months.

He was a bright and lovable child and we miss him so much in our homes and also at church where he was taken regularly. Although only two and one-half years old he could remember names and would speak to different ones in his friendly way. He would sing and talk so much in his Sunday school class and was quick to learn the memory verses.

His death came as a shock for he seemed to be such a healthy child until within a few days of his death when he complained of his head hurting, and he put his hand on the top of his head to show where it hurt. Just a week before his death he was taken to the doctor, but his trouble was not easily located and developed so fast. He was first taken to Levering hospital in Hannibal and from there to Barnes hospital in St Louis, where he passed away during surgery for brain tumor.

All that loving hands could do was done, but to no avail. God in His wisdom saw fit to take him Home. It was hard to give him up but we submit to our Heavenly Father’s will, knowing He knows the future and what is best. “The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.” He alone can give grace sufficient for our trials and disappointments in life. We are thankful He let us have Lawrence Dale with us even this short while.

He leaves to mourn his departure father, mother, two half-brothers. Howard and James, his maternal grandparents, a number of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. His paternal grandparents preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Pea Ridge Mennonite church March 26, with Bro. Daniel Kauffman, Leonard, Mo., in charge, assisted by Ira Buckwalter, Harry Buckwalter, and Harold Kreider. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Glendon, Stanley, and Sherman Hathaway and Wendell Kreider. — By his Aunt.
