STROKE PROVES FATAL

Wakarusa, Ind. — Mrs. Magdalene Hartzler, 77, wife of Simon Hartzler, died Sunday afternoon, July 13, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hartman northeast of Wakarusa.

She had suffered a stroke there July 6 while attending open house for Mr. and Mrs. Allen Byler and sons, appointed as missionaries to Tanganyika.

Mrs. Hartzler was a member of the Mennonite (Old) Church and taught a Sunday school class at the Holdeman church for many years.

MRS. SIMON HARTZLER

Mrs. Magdalene Hartzler passed away at 4:00 p. m. Sunday, July 13, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hartman northeast of Wakarusa, Ind. She had suffered a stroke there July 6 while attending open house for Mr. and Mrs. Allen Byler and sons, who plan to leave for mission work at Tanganyika, Africa.

Mrs. Hartzler was born Sept. 27, 1880, in Olive township near Wakarusa, the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Ressler) Butler [sic Beutler]. She was the last surviving member of her family. She married Simon C. Hartzler Dec. 9,1903.

She was a member of the Mennonite church and was a Sunday school teacher at the Holdeman church for many years. She was a correspondent to the Review at the time of her death.

The husband survives with two daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Alice) Hartman and Mrs. Irvin (Esther) Good of Goshen; four sons, Roy Hartzler and Mahlon Hartzler of Goshen, John Hartzler of Elkhart, and Robert Hartzler of Morton, Ill.; 37 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Olive Mennonite Church. Rev. Ray Yoder, Rev. Francis Freed and Rev. Harold Myers officiated. Burial was made in the Olive cemetery.
