Long-Time Bishop, Church Worker Dies

Lancaster, Pa. — Funeral services were conducted at the Willow Street Mennonite Church near here for Bishop Jacob T. Harnish, 86, bishop of the Willow Street and Strasburg Mennonite churches since 1946.

Bishop Harnish was the oldest bishop in the Lancaaster Conference. Before his ordination as bishop he served the two churches as deacon and minister for 25 years.

He served as field worker at large for the Eastern Board of Missions, and was a director of the Oreville Mennonite Home for 38 years.

Surviving are 11 children and their families as well as one brother, George P. of Willow Street.
