ISAAC S. HARMS

Isaac S. Harms was born on June 4, 1898, in rural Whitewater, Kan., the son of Henry H. and Elizabeth Klaassen Harms, and died in the Bethel Deaconess Hospital, Newton, on Feb. 10, 1970, at the age of 71 years, eight months, and six days.

He received his education in the Grace Hill community and was a graduate of the Hillsboro Academy.

He was baptized in the Grace Hill Mennonite Church by the Rev. G. N. Harms on June 11, 1916, and remained an active member as long as his health permitted, serving on the Church Board for a period of time. He was also active in community affairs, especially as a member of the school board for a number of years.

On June 6, 1923, Isaac married Helen Harms. The couple spent their entire married life in the Grace Hill area, most of it on the home place. Three children were born to this union.

Though his health began to fail in 1959, he did not retire from farming until 1965. He and Helen continued to live in the home in which he was born and where they spent most of their life together until January 1969 when his physical condition made it necessary for him to receive nursing care in a rest home in Canton.

Isaac was a gentle, kindly person, one who remained uncomplaining in spite of failing health and suffering. His last coherent sentence was "I want to go home." Now he has gone home to that eternal city whose Maker and Builder is God, in that better Country where there is no more pain and where God Himself shall wipe away all tears.

In addition to his widow he is survived by his children, Doreen Frances of Akron, Pa., Vernon Lee and wife Ramona of Saskatoon, Sask.; and Marjorie Ann of the home; six brothers, Leonard of rural Newton, Emil of Hamilton, Ontario, Paul of Drake, Sask., Theodore of Wellington; William of McPherson; and Henry of Denver, Colo.: four grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters and one brother.
