Willie Harder was born on May 30, 1895 near Whitewater, Kan., the youngest of nine children of the John Harder family. He attended local schools, a parochial school at Hillsboro, Kan. and Bethel Academy at North Newton, Kan.

He was baptized upon the confession of his faith in Jesus Christ on June 1, 1914 and joined the Emmaus Mennonite Church where he remained a member until 1941. At that time the family moved to Aberdeen, Idaho and he joined the First Mennonite Church of that place.

He married Catherine Wiebe on May 31, 1917 at Whitewater. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1967.

In 1965 he suffered a stroke, from which he covered enough to be able to return to a fairly active life. On May 23, 1971 he suffered another stroke and passed away on May 29.

Surviving are his wife; five children, Mrs. Herbert F. (Catherine) Crocker of Stillwater, Minn., Mrs. Peter Z. (Wilma) Friesen of Huningue, France, Mrs. William H. (Mildred) Dahlenburg, of Phoenix, Ariz., Wilfred E. Harder of Palo Alto, Calif., and Eldon B. Harder of Aberdeen; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Justina Reimer of Whitewater; and one brother, G. A. Harder of Newton, Kan.

Funeral services were held on June 1 at the First Mennonite Church of Aberdeen, with burial in the nearby Homestead cemetery.

WILLIE HARDER
