HENRY JOSEPH HARDER

Henry Joseph Harder, son of the late Charles and Helena Witzke Harder, was born near Latham, Mo. on Nov. 26, 1881, and died May 31, 1961 at the age of 79 years, six months and five days.

In 1906 he was ordained to the ministry by the late Bishop Daniel Kauffman after which he served in the ministry of the Mt. Zion Mennonite Church northwest of Versailles, Mo. In 1920 he was married to Bernice DeWitt and went with his wife to Didsbury, Alberta, where he served the West Zion Mennonite Church for a number of years.

In June 1959 he came to Colorado Springs, Colo. to receive care by his sisters who live there. In February 1960 he suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered. His death was attributed to pneumonia.

He was preceded in death by his wife in1947 and two sisters, Sophia and Eva (Mrs. A. C. Brunk).

He is survived by four brothers, Reuben and Jonas Harder of Leonard, Mo., Ed. Harder of Upland, Calif., and John Harder of Blue Sky, Alberta; and four sisters, Mrs. Lydia Driver, Mrs. Melva Brunk, Mrs. Emily Magee, and Miss Edna Harder, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.

He engaged in carpentry for a number of years in the time that he lived in the Lathan [sic Latham] and Excelsior communities northeast of Versailles, Mo.

Funeral services were held in Colorado Springs on June 5, Minister Paul A. Wittrig, pastor of the Bethel Mennonite Church officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
