— Henry H. Harder, 67, formerly of Newton and a resident of Wichita since 1929, died at the Santa Fe Hospital in Topeka on Thursday, June 25. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church in Wichita. Mr. Harder was a native of the Whitewater community and formerly was employed by the Santa Fe as a carman. Surviving are his wife, Georgiana; two daughters, Mrs. Herman Voth of Wichita and Mrs. LaRue Young of Roseville, Calif.; three sons, Ernest of Wichita, Albert of Osage City and Marvin of Denver, Colo.; and 12 grandchildren.

HENRY H. HARDER

Henry Hans Harder was born July 22, 1891, near Whitewater, Kansas, the child of John and Justine Harder. His youthful years were spent on the farm to Butler County. He became a member of the Emmaus Mennonite Church near Whitewater.

On May 30, 1917, he united in marriage with Helen Richert in Newton, Kansas. To this union were born three children, Albert Carl, Ernest Henry and Dora Justine. The family home was in Newton where in 1922 he began employment with the Santa Fe Railroad. In 1929 he was transferred to the shops in Wichita where he was employed until his retirement in 1958 after 35 years and eight months of service.

In 1932 he was united in marriage with Georgiana Hogue and with her two children, Marvin and LaRue, the home was established in Wichita, first at 640 North Terrace Drive and later at 338 North Martinson. In May of 1935 he became a member of the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church.

In March of this year he became ill and on April 14 entered the Santa Fe Hospital in Topeka for observation. In spite of constant and loving care by his wife and the doctors and nurses at the hospital, his condition became worse and on June 5, 1959, he peacefully passed away.

His passing is mourned by his wife, Georgiana; her children, Marvin and Virginia Hogue, and LaRue and Frank Young; and his children, Albert Carl and Daisy Harder, Ernest Henry and Edna Harder and Dora and Herman Voth; 12 grandchildren, relatives and friends.

“I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God; in Him will I trust.”

Services were held in the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church at 2:00 p.m. on June 29, 1959.
