Sardis, B. C. — An 11-year-old girl was orphaned on Aug. 26 following a two-car collision near Sumas, Wash, which took the lives of both of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Hamm of Abbotsford, B.C.

The daughter, Lena Hamm, was injured as were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kelly of Pendleton, Oregon, occupants of the other car. Mr. Kelly said he saw the Hamm car crossing the highway in front of him but was unable to avoid the accident.

Mr. Hamm was born in Rudnerweide, Russia in 1897, and Mrs. Hamm, the former Elizabeth Nickel, in Orenburg, Russia in 1898. Both were baptized in 1916 and received into the Mennonite church at Orenburg.

They were married in 1920 and came to Canada in 1926, living in Saskatchewan, Alberta and in various communities in British Columbia. Lena Hamm, who was an adopted daughter, now lives with relatives.

Mr. Hamm was known as a careful, earnest Christian.

British Columbia Couple Killed On Highway

11-YEAR-OLD GIRL ORPHANED BY HIGHWAY CRASH NEAR SUMAS, WASH.

Sardis, B. C. — An 11-year-old girl was orphaned on Aug. 26 following a two-car collision near Sumas, Wash, which took the lives of both of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Hamm of Abbotsford, B.C.
