KURT HAMM

Kurt Hamm died April 3,2008 at age 87. He was born in Gdansk, Poland to Johannes and Meta Hamm. At 17, Kurt was drafted into the army with the outbreak of World War II. He served in North Africa, where he contracted malaria, was captured by the British, and sent to prisoner of war camps in Texas and Oklahoma. Released in 1946, he returned to Germany, where he met and married Renate Gudsche. In 1951, they immigrated to Canada, where Kurt met Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. As a retiree, Kurt volunteered at Niagara Detention Centre as a "visiting friend." He was honoured for his 23 years of service with the Ministers Award for exceptional volunteer service. The Lord blessed his life with 5 children, 10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild.
