ELIZABETH DEBORAH HAMM

Elizabeth Deborah Hamm of Herbert, Sask. passed away Jan. 7. She was born June 27, 1905 to Cornelius and Maria Penner in Ignatov, Ukraine. Her father died Oct. 15, 1905. In spring, 1906 she immigrated to Herbert, Sask. with her mother and sister. Her mother married, and they lived at Langham, Sask., Main Centre, Sask. and Herbert. At age 8 she accepted Christ during a revival at Main Centre. At 14 she was baptized in the South Saskatchewan River and joined Herbert MB Church. After teacher training in Regina and Saskatoon, she taught in various one-room schools near Herbert and Swift Current, Sask. She married farmer Abram Hamm Nov, 1, 1932 in Herbert. She taught Sunday school and Good News club, distributed gospel literature, supported and prayed for missionaries and listened to Christian radio and TV. Her goal in life was to win people to Jesus and glorify God. She loved reading, gardening, crocheting, embroidery and piano playing. Abe passed away Sept. 1, 1982. She lived in Gull Lake, in a house in Herbert, in a senior citizens' home, with her daughters and then in Herbert Nursing Home. Suffering from arthritis and myelodysphasia, she displayed courage and perseverance. She is mourned by her daughters Clara Butler of Gull Lake, Sask. and Lydia Dyck of Steinbach, Man. ; sons Jack and Marv; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and 1 stepsister. There was a memorial service Jan. 11 at Herbert Nursing Home, with Bill Buller ministering, and a funeral Jan. 12 in Herbert MB Church, with Gene White and Dan Anhorn ministering.
