MRS. ANNA HAMM

The daughter of David and Anna (nee Unger) Woelk, (Mrs.) Anna Hamm was born on December 18, 1908 in Gruenfeld Kreis Krivoi Rog in the Ukraine. The family moved to Canada in 1925, settling in Beechy, Sask. She accepted the Lord as her Saviour two years later, and attended the Dalmeny Bible School for one year. In 1929 she was baptized and became a member of the Beechy Mennonite Brethren Church. In the fall of that year she married Jacob Hamm, and at the same time became a stepmother. The Lord blessed the Hamms with six more children.

In 1935 they moved to Coaldale, Alta., where Mr. Hamm worked for Rev. B. B. Janz for six years. In the fall of 1941 they became the first residents in the settlement of Arnold, B.C. Although it was not an easy life they still enjoyed the fellowship and friendship of the neighbourhood. In 1959 they moved to Clearbrook, B.C. The sudden death of their oldest son, Jack, in 1964 brought great sadness. Mr. Hamm's health deteriorated and on May 19, 1967, he passed away.

Mrs. Hamm moved into an apartment a few years later in Abbotsford, B.C. where she made new friends. When she wasn't ill, she was always busy, sewing for missions, MCC, her children and grandchildren. After two years of suffering and illness, on October 13 she had a heart attack and went to her eternal rest. Pastor John Baerg and Rev. H. Lenzmann officiated at a funeral service on October 16 in the Clearbrook Church.

Left to mourn are two daughters in B.C., Anne (Mrs. John) Rempel and Esther (Mrs. Max) Hurlburt; four sons, Henry, Dave and Ernie in B.C. and Victor in Alberta; two sons-in-law; five daughters-in-law; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, (Mrs.) Mary Falk and Helen (Mrs . John) Kehler, both in Saskatchewan; four brothers, Henry and George in B.C. and David and Jake in Saskatchewan; and many relatives and friends.
