Two Well-Known Berne Businessmen Called Away in Death
Berne, Ind. — Two men long active in the business and industrial life of this community were called away in death recently. Both were members of the First Mennonite Church.
Clovis Oberli, 79, one of the founders of the Berne Furniture Co., died unexpectedly at this home May 25. A native of Canton Bern, Switzerland, he was trained in carpentry and cabinet making there. He and his wife came to this country in 1910 and to Berne in 1925. He remained active in the furniture company here until his death. He was also active in civic affairs and owned a local restaurant.
Surviving in addition to Mrs. Oberli are a brother and three sisters in Switzerland, and one brother of Warsaw, Ind.
Menno B. Habegger, 76, who was active in the hardware business here most of his life, died May 20 at a rest home. After working in several hardware stores here, he helped establish the Serv-US-Store in 1934 and remained a partner in the business until his retirement in 1962.
