DANIEL P. GUENTHER

Daniel P. Guenther, son of Peter and Margaret Peters Guenther, was born on Nov. 29, 1880 in South Russia. As a child, when he was four years old, he came with his parents to the U. S. A.

As a young man, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour and was baptized upon his confession of faith and received into the Mennonite Brethren Church at Corn, Okla.

On Jan. 24, 1907, he was united in holy matrimony to Tina Reimer of Corn, Okla. This union, which lasted 51 years, three months and 24 days, was blessed with seven children. Two of the children preceded their father in death, Reuben at the age of 47, and a daughter, Stella, in infancy.

Our parents worked hard to make an honest living. At the same time they had time for family devotions, Sunday school and church. The Lord honored the Godly life of our parents by calling one of their daughters, Elsie, to be a missionary. We are grateful that she could return for the memorial service.

In the year 1933, our parents came to California and settled in Reedley. Here our father spent some 14 years as custodian of the Mennonite Brethren Church. This to him was a service to the Lord. About six years ago he broke his leg and since that time he was unable to work. He has enjoyed comparatively good health most of his life.

In late May he submitted to an operation. We had great hopes for his recovery, but Tuesday morning, June 22, 1965, the Lord called him home to glory. He reached the age of 84 years, nine months and 28 days.

Those who remain to mourn his departure are the following five children, Elsie Guenther, missionary to Brazil; Frieda, Mrs. Elmer Kusch of Reedley, Calif.; Herman Guenther, Fresno, Calif.; Frank Guenther, Reedley; Betty Guenther, Reedley; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; four brothers, John Guenther, Reedley, Calif., Henry Peters of Canada, Sam Guenther and Isaac Guenther, both of Bakersfield, Calif.; four sisters, Anna, Mrs. Warkentin of Reedley, Esther, Mrs. Hedman of Bakersfield, Helen, Mrs. Kersey of Bakersfield, and Lydia, Mrs. Ratzlaff of Newton, Kan. and many other friends and relatives. — The Family.
