NOAH S. GUENGERICH

Noah S. Guengerich, Upland, California, son of the late Samuel D. and Barbara (Beachy) Guengerich, was born on April 6, 1887, near Wellman, Iowa, and departed from this life on July 23, 1952, aged 65 years, three months, and 17 days.

He is survived by his wife and two children, Twila and Robert; two sisters, Susie (Mrs. Henry Kuhns), and Mrs. Lizzie Bender, Wellman, Iowa; three brothers, William S., Upland, Joel &, Wellman, Menno S., Blackie, Alberta, Canada, and a host of relatives and friends. His parents, one brother, Daniel, and one sister, Annie (Mrs. D. B. Swartzendruber) preceded him to that eternal Home.

Noah was converted in his early youth and a short time later united with the Menonite [sic Mennonite] Church to which he remained loyal and faithful.

On November 15, 1934, he was united in marriage to Esther Buckwalter in Pomona, California, and they started life together in Pasadena, where they lived for a few years. Many happy years of their life were also spent in Wellman, Iowa, before he and his family settled in Upland to enjoy fellowship with the 7th Street Mennonite group and their many other relatives and friends in California. The joy of his life was in doing the will of Christ and in helping others. A number of well-constructed houses will stand as monuments of his integrity and skill in the building trade. We will all remember him for the quiet unassuming way he went about his work.

Noah will be remembered by his self-sacrificing spirit that so vividly portrayed the Christ-like spirit of living for others. He was never too busy to help someone else. His genuineness was reflected by the smiling greeting that he had for all whom he met.

Through the intense suffering of the last weeks of his life here on earth, he did not complain or lose faith in Christ, His deepest concern, even then, was for others. He will be remembered as a loving husband and a kind affectionate father as well as a friend to many.
