Amelia Gertrude, daughter of Peter and Magadene Butler Hirstein, was born August 7, 1877, near Cullom, Ill.

At the age of 12 years she accepted Christ as her personal saviour during evangelistic meetings conducted by J. S. Coffman. She united with the Mennonite church and remained a faithful member throughout her life. She was always interested in the work of her church and served for many years as a Sunday school teacher. Prior to her marriage she assisted with the work at the Mennonite Home Mission in Chicago for almost two years.

She was united in marriage to William M. Grove of Weyers Cave, Va., October 30, 1907, at the home of her parents in Cullom, Ill. The following spring they moved to a farm near Garden City, Mo. Their two daughters were born at Garden City. From 1910 to 1917 they made their home in Cullom, after which they returned to their farm near Garden City. In 1925 they moved into town. Her husband passed away September 11, 1929.

She passed away Tuesday, December 29, 1953, at the age of 76 years four months and 22 days. Death was attributed to a heart attack following a lingering illness. A brother, Samuel, and a sister, Clara, also preceded her in death.

Funeral service was held at the Sycamore Grove church, January 1, 1954, in charge of R.P. Horst, Kansas City, Kans., and W. R. Hershberger. Burial was in the Clearfork cemetery.
