• Relatives from Newton and Hesston attended the funeral of Mrs. Fred Grove, 68, at Limon, Colo., Wednesday, July 24. Mrs. Grove died in the Colorado General Hospital on July 21 after a long illness. The services were held in th First Baptist Church of Limon, conducted by Rev. Marcus Bishop, Rev. Val Swartzendruber, and Rev. Duane Moody. Mrs. Grove was a member of the Limon Mennonite Church. She is survived by her husband Fred; a daughter, Ruby Mae Johnson of Denver, and a grandson, Fred Ralph Weaver. Mr. and Mrs. Grove lived near Hesston until March 1939, when they moved to Limon.

MRS. FRED GROVE

Mrs. Fred Grove, 68, died at Colorado General Hospital in Denver on Sunday, July21, after a long period of ill health. She went to Lincoln Community hospital at Hugo, Colo. on June 1 and after spending some time there, returned to her home. She was taken to Colorado General June 1 and since that time had undergone surgery three times.

Mr. and Mrs. Grove had been residents of the Pleasant Plains district southwest of Limon, Colo. since 1939, coming to that community from Hesston, Kan.

Alta Mae Weaver was born on a farm near Newton, Kan. Sept. 2, 1894, the oldest daughter of Menno B. and Lavina (Burkhart) Weaver. She grew to womanhood at Hesston and was married to Fred H. Grove Feb. 1, 1917. They became the parents of one daughter. They made their home near Hesston until March, 1939, when they came to Limon.

At the age of nine years she became a member of the Mennonite church in which she was a faithful, active member throughout her life. She was active in the missionary society of her church and served as its president for the past several years. She was also active in community affairs, being a member of the Pleasant Plains Ladies Aid and Friendly Neighbors Home Demonstration club, as well as helping make cancer pads for Sands House.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. She is survived by her husband, Fred; a daughter, Ruby Mae Johnson, and a grandson, Fred Ralph Weaver. The Johnsons live in Denver. She is also survived by two brothers, Lester Weaver of Flanagan, Ill., and Dave Weaver of Milford, Kan.; and by two sisters, Ruth Kenagy of Kansas City, Kan. and Ethel Harbott of Lake Charles, La.

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church of Limon on July 24 with Marcus Bishop, Val Swartzendruber and Duane Moody officiating. “Beautiful Garden of Prayer,” “Shall We Gather At the River” and “In the Garden” were sung by Eleanor Moody, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Hazel Snavely.

Burial was in Pershing Memorial Cemetery in Limon.
