RHODA C. DAYTON GROSS

Rhoda C. Dayton Gross, daughter of Norman W. and Annie (Yoder) Yoder, was born in Somerset County, Pa., on July 6, 1901. She died of congestive heart failure at Pinto, Md., on Jan 6, 1986. She was 84.

On Nov. 13, 1919, she was married to Robert P. Dayton, who died May 29, 1953. Soon after being widowed she moved from the Dayton homestead to Pinto, Md., where she lived until her marriage to John C. Gross of Blooming Glen, Pa., in 1960.

After being widowed again in 1961, she continued to live in Blooming Glen, serving at Laurelville Mennonite Church center, Mt. Pleasant, during the summer months, from 1959 and 1966. She wintered at Lafayette Court, Sarasota, Fla., for a number of years but made Pinto, Md., her permanent home in 1983. and

Her survivors include six sons, Calvin P. Dayton of Short Gap, Pa., David Y. Dayton of Keyser, W. Va., John M. Dayton of Blooming Glen, Robert T. Dayton of Hilltown, Pa., Arthur D. Dayton of Terre Haute, Ind., and Phillip N. Dayton of Short Gap, Pa., three daughters, Anna F. Bishop of Doylestown, Pa., Virginia K. Moreland of Pinto, and Lois Byler of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one step-daughter, Ruth Myers of Blooming Grove; two brothers, Walter N. and Norma S. Yoder, both of Cumberland, Md.; three sisters, Eva M. Barton of Cumberland, Md., Viola N. Johnson of Scottdale, Pa., and Sue A. Collins of Sarasota, Fla.; 32 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Pinto Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on Jan. 7, in charge of Elvin J. Sommers and Lester Hershey. Interment was in the church cemetery.
