text of obituary:

Br.

Gattin u. Kinder.

English translation:

Brother John I. Graves was born in Kleefeld, South Russia, and died on Sunday morning, August 29, 1937, shortly before 7 a.m., at the age of 62 years, 1 month and 3 days. He came as a youth to this country in 1893. We married in 1897, and our union was blessed with ten children, of whom one son and one daughter predeceased their father. He leaves behind to mourn his early death, me, his wife, 5 sons, 3 daughters and 13 grandchildren.

In 1895, he was converted to the Lord and was added to the M. B. congregation through baptism by Äeltester Abr. Schellenberg. He was a loving father to his family and always had an open hand and heart for others, especially orphans, as he himself had lost his father and mother to death early in life. His memory remains a blessing. He died on our 40th wedding anniversary. At the funeral, words of comfort were offered by brother P. N. Hiebert of Bakersfield and an English preacher from Los Angeles. We grieve, however not as those who have no hope, but we await the hour of our reunion with the Lord.

Wife and children.
