MARJORIE GRABER

Marjorie Ann Graber, 77, died March 11, 2010, at Freeman (S.D.) Regional Hospital. She was born Feb. 3, 1933, the only child of Alfred and Bertha (Tieszen) Ewert, in rural Marion.

She graduated from Marion Public High School in 1951 and went on to attend Southern Teachers College in Springfield and Freeman Junior College. After college, she went to work as a medical secretary in the pathology department at Avera St. Lukes in Aberdeen and at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.

On Aug. 8, 1959, she married Cleon Graber. Together they built their lives on the family farm east of Freeman. From their union they were blessed with two children, Teresa and Linden.

These years were spent watching her children grow, spending time with family and friends and helping on the farm. They continued to farm until 1991, when they retired and moved to their present home in Freeman. She then spent many hours working as a volunteer at the Et Cetera Shoppe in Freeman. She loved her work as the store's assistant manager.

Her greatest joy came when she could spend time with her family. She spent hours of time with her grandchildren, watching them in sports and church activities.

Upon her confession of faith, she was baptized at Bethel Mennonite Church in rural Marion. After her marriage, she joined Salem-Zion Mennonite Church of rural Freeman, where she remained a faithful member until her death.

Survivors include her husband, Cleon; daughter Teresa Dick and her husband, Jim; son Linden Graber and his wife, Judy; a brother-in-law, O’Ray Graber and his wife, Edith; a sister-in-law, Rita Graber; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Palmer Graber.
