text of obituary:

JACOB G. GRABER

Jacob G. Graber, son of Rev. Joseph and Freni Graber, was born May 24, 1869, at Horodishtch [sic Horodisch], South Russia. In 1874 he migrated with his parents to the United States and settled near Marion, in Turner county, S. Dak. where he grew to manhood on his parents' homestead.

On July 20, 1884, he was baptized by the Rev. Christian Kaufman upon his confession of faith, and accepted as member of Salem Zion Mennonite church at Freeman, S. D. Later, when the Salem church was organized, he transferred his membership to this church where he remained an active and faithful member.

He was married to Anna Preheim on May 27, 1891, and together they established a home on a farm where they shared life’s joys and sorrows for 59 years, two months and 21 days. On August 18, 1949, he suffered a stroke which left him partly paralyzed and bedridden. Exactly one year later, August 18, 1950, he was released from all earthly cares and suffering and passed on to be with his Lord whom he dearly loved. He reached the ripe old age of 81 years, two months, 24 days. His aged wife and his daughter, Marie, faithfully and tenderly cared for him in their home to the end.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife; two sons, Joseph and Harold; six daughters, Adina (Mrs. Ben P. Waltner), Marie, Martha (Mrs. William Schrag), Emma (Mrs. Andrew Schrag), Lydia (Mrs. Dave Mueller), and Alice (Mrs. Wesley Kaufman); two daughters-in-law and five sons-in-law; sixteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. One daughter, Lena, aged three years, and two grandchildren preceded him in death. He was the last surviving member of the Rev. Joseph Graber family, his parents, three brothers, and five sisters having gone before him.

“Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from hence forth: Yea saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them." Rev. 14:13.
