Dies While At Work in Barn

Pretty Prairie, Kan. — Funeral services were conducted at the First Mennonite Church here Nov. 20 for Henry P. Graber, 66, who died suddenly of a heart ailment Nov. 17. He was working in the barn with his son, pitching hay, when he passed away unexpectedly.

A native of Marion, S. D., he had lived here most of his life. he was active in the local church and Sunday school and in civic affairs, and in 1955 completed work on a Graber family history.

Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth Janzen, six children and seven grandchildren.

HENRY P. GRABER

Henry P. Graber died suddenly at his farm near Pretty Prairie, Kan., Saturday, nov. 17, the victim of a heart attack.

The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon Nov. 20 in the First Mennonite Church with Dr. Howard G. Nyce officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

A son of the late Peter O. and Susan Goering Graber, he was born at Marion, S.D., Nov. 5, 1890. When but a very small child his parents migrated from south Dakota to pretty prairie, where they lived on a farm seven miles east of Pretty Prairie. His father preceded him in death when he was seven years old. his mother was an invalid as long as he could remember.

He received his only formal training in grade school, and when 17 years old he took over the complete responsibility of the farm. His mother passed away in 1913.

He was received as a member of the First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie upon his confession of faith and was baptized by the late Rev. J. J. Flickinger Oct. 20, 1906.

On Oct. 29, 1912, he was married to Elizabeth Graber. She passed away in 1928. on June 10, 1930, he was married to Elizabeth Janzen.

He loved to read and was a great lover of nature. He was deeply interested in his church where he served in the Sunday school as well as the church. He was also greatly interested in civic affairs. He compiled a book of the Grab er family which was concluded in the spring of 1955, having worked on it for over two years.

For 17 years he suffered of pernicious anemia. This made working very difficult for him at times. he fell asleep very suddenly, having suffered a heart attack, on Saturday afternoon shortly before four o'clock, having attained the age of 66 years and 12 days.

He is survived by his widow, Elizabeth; six children, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Graber and Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Graber of Pretty Prairie, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Graber of Hutchinson, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Graber of Glenview, ill., Marvin and Virginia at home. One son and two grandchildren preceded him in death.

He is also survived by three brothers, Chris of Moundridge, Ben P. O. and Jonas of Pretty Prairie, one sister, Mrs. Dan j. Stuckey of McPherson, and seven grandchildren.
