— Funeral services were held at the Corn, Okla. M. B. church Nov. 8 for J. C. Gossen, 62, who died at his home there after along illness. Mr. Gossen was born in a settlement in Turkestan, Central Asia, founded by a group of Mennonites from Molotschna, Russia and came to the Corn community with his parents in 1910.

Jacob C. Gossen, our beloved husband and father, was born in Turkistan, Asia on June 8, 1897. When he was 12 his parents with the family emigrated to the United States. They settled in the Corn, Okla. community, where he completed his education, grew to manhood, was naturalized and became a United States citizen.

When he was 14 years old he realized that he was in need of a Savior. In deep contrition, he repented of his sin and found forgiveness in the precious Blood of the Lamb. In 1913, upon his confession of faith, he was baptized and received into the Mennonite Brethren Church of Corn, whose faithful member he remained until his parting.

In 1918 he entered holy wedlock with Annie Vogt. Eight children were born to this union. Jacob Jr. and Willard preceded him in death in their early childhood. The Lord blessed us materially, and father provided well for the family. He took great pleasure in serving the Lord with the means he had entrusted to him. Father delighted to serve his Master in the ministry of singing and as a member of the church board of trustees. He faithfully labored on the Board of Education of the Corn Bible academy. Not only did he sacrifice much of his time but also of his means.

Father enjoyed good health until three years ago. Professional help was secured but all efforts seemed to fail and his condition became more acute. The last 10 months he was bedfast and the last month he suffered greatly. It was a comfort to us as a family to realized that in his suffering he firmly trusted in the Lord, thus growing stronger in the faith while physically he became weaker.

He longed to go home and be with the Lord, and expressed his desire with Psalm 17:15. The Lord heard his solemn petition and quietly took him to his heavenly reward. He reached the age of 62 years, four months and 27 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his deeply bereaved wife; three daughters, Edna, Mrs. J. B. Duerksen of Cloud Chief, Okla., Miriam, Mrs. Francis Sallaska, and Anna Lee, Mrs. Rhiney Graff, of Corn; three sons, Sam and Jacob Gossen, Jr. of Corn, and Joel Gossen of Denver; Three daughters-in-law and three sons-in-law; 17 grandchildren; four sisters, Marie, Mrs. C. H Dick of Corn, Tena [sic Tina], Mrs. C. J. Voght [sic Vogt] of Fresno, Calif., Margaret, Mrs. A. F. Wiebe of Huron, S. D., and Bertha, Mrs. J. W. Fast of Meade, Kansas; two brothers, George Gossen of Madison, Wis. and J. W. Gossen of Corn, and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Nov. 8, 1959, at the Mennonite Brethren church in Corn, Okla., Rev. J. P. Kliewer in charge. —Mrs. Annie Gossen and Family.
