PETER J. GORSCHING

Peter John Gorsching, son of Jacob and Katherine (Schmidt) Gorsching, was bon Dec. 24, 1890 in Marion County, Kansas. While he was still a small child his parents moved to Bessie, Okla., where he grew up and received his education.

On Jan. 23, 1911, he was united in marriage to Mattie Kiehn. Two sons and six daughters were born to this union. In 1936 the family moved from Oklahoma to Shafter, Calif. Here they made their home and won many friends.

In 1911 Mr. Gorsching and his wife accepted Christ as their Savior and were baptized and received into the Bessie Menonite Brethren Church of Bessie, Okla.

Bro. Gorsching enjoyed the deep affection of his family and the high esteem of a wide circle of acquaintances. In his Christian life he revealed an unfailing legality to his Lord and Master. This was evidenced in his everyday life, in his keen interest in the work of the Lord, in his prayers for the local church and the world, and in his concern as a deacon of the local congregation.

On Aug. 24 he was admitted to the Kern Gerneral Hospital where he remained until he departed this life on Saturday, Oct. 13, having reached the age of 71 years, nine months, and 20 days.

Left to mourn his passing are his widow, Mattie; two sons, Allen of Taft, Calif. and Wesley of Shafter, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. Dorthy [sic Dorothy] Chelf of Waynoka, Okla., Mrs. Verna Parrett of Shafter, Mrs. Ollie Nusz of Bakersfield, Calif., Mrs. Donna Goddard of Burns, Oregon, and Mrs. Jeanne Youell [sic Yonell] of Tucson, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred Gorsching of Custer City, Okla.; and one sister, Maria Johnson of Corn, Okla.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one child, Clara Jane; one brother, Jacob Gorsching; and three sisters, Katherine Schmidt, Elizabeth Flaming, and Carlene Gaeddert.
