— Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Goossen have returned from Colby, Kan. where they attended funeral services on Sunday afternoon for Mr. Goossen's brother, Cornelius Goossen, 46. The services were held at the Meadow Mennonite church, Rev. J. W. Bergen in charge. Mr. Goossen died Nov. 3 after a three-year illness. Surviving are his wife and eight children of the home, seven brothers and two sisters.

CORNELIUS D. GOOSSEN

Cornelius D. Goossen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Franz M. Goossen, was born Sept. 30, 1913 near Hillsboro in Marion county, Kansas.

When he was 22 years of age he made a stand for Christ, and on June 9, 1935 he was baptized upon his confession of faith by Rev. P. H. Unruh and joined the Alexanderwhol [sic Alexanderwohl] church near Goessel, Kansas.

On June 2, 1942 he was united in marriage to Hulda Ella Franz. To this union eight children were born.

He and his wife established their home on a farm in Marion county, Kansas and lived there about four years. From there he and his family moved to Thomas county, Kansas, on a farm five miles south of Mingo.

On July 28, 1946 he joined the Meadow Mennonite church where he remained a member until his death.

Mr. Goossen loved his family and was deeply concerned about their spiritual welfare. About three years ago Mr. Goossen became aware of some internal complication which later proved to be malignant. This condition slowly became worse with some intermission. During this time he was admitted to the hospital at different times, but on Oct. 10 his condition beame more severe, which made it necessary for him to remain confined to the hospital.

Just previous to his confinement in the hospital, he had an inward conviction that the Lord would soon call him Home. In the light of this conviction he said goodnight to the family with the living hope to meet them on the other side.

On Nov. 3 at 11:15 a.m. he went home to be with the Lord at the age of 46 years one month and three days.

His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Franz M. Goossen, and two brothers, Wilhelm and Heinrich, preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Hulda; five sons and three daughters, Vernon Alvin, Simon Walter, Andrew James, Harold John, Othelia Susan, Timothy Allen, Arleta Louise and Erna Elaine; seven brothers, Frank of Oakley, Kansas, John of Marion, Kansas, Abraham of Colby, Kansas, Alvin of Newton, Kansas, Ferdinand of Hillsboro, Kansas, Edward of Colby, Kansas and Walter of Muskogee, Okla.; two adopted sisters, Mrs. Walter Schmidt of Goessel, Kansas and Mrs. Sam Ratzlaff of Warden, Wash.; his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Franz of Colby, Kansas; brother and sisters-in-law, relatives and friends.

Though sorrowing at his departure, we rejoice in the blessed hope of Christ's soon return and the resurrection of the saints. — The Family.
