— Relatives here received word that Alden Goossen, 31, of Colby, Kan. was accidentally electrocuted Mar. 11 while working with irrigation pipe which came in contact with a power line. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at the Meadow Mennonite Church, Mingo. Mr. Goossen, who attended Berean Academy, leaves his widow and three children. He was a nephew of F. D. Goossen of North Newton and a cousin of Judge Levi Goossen of Newton.

ALDEN E. GOOSSEN

Alden E. Goossen was born on Jan. 31, 1940, at Colby, Kan. and departed from this life on March 10, 1971, at Colby at the age of 31 years. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward D. Goossen.

He married Virginia Dean Fisher on Aug. 27, 1961. To this union were born three children, Alden Lynn, 8, Gayla Dawn, 7, and Kerwin Eugene, 4.

He received his Savior and Lord in 1949 during a week of special meetings. He was baptized and received into the Meadow Mennonite Church, Mingo, Kan., on July 18, 1954. He lived a consistent Christian life from the time he was saved till his death. He was active in the church as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the choir, a member of the quartet, an usher, and attended the services faithfully.

He received his high school education at Berean Academy, Elbing, Kan., and continued his education at Western Bible Institute. While in school he made many Christian friends.

He was a member of The Gideon International and worked faithfully in it. His one desire was to see the Gideon Bible Memorial established and through his death this has been accomplished. At the time of his death he was a member of the Gideon State Cabinet.

He served his country in doing 1-W work in the St. Luke's hospital, Denver, Colo., from February 1960 through February 1962. After his 1-W service he purchased his uncle's farm north of Oakley where the family lives. He received the Outstanding Farmer award of Thomas County in 1965.

He was involved in many activities of the community and will be missed by the whole community. He was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed in the home. He enjoyed reading the Bible and sharing it with his family.

He leaves to mourn his wife and three children; Alden Lynn, Gayla Dawn, and Kerwin Eugene all of the home; his parents; two brothers, Maurice and wife Patricia of Detroit, Mich., and Marcus of Hillsboro, Kan.; two sisters, Esther Goossen, a missionary in Brazil, and Mrs. James Berg and husband of Colby; his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Fisher and family of Lakin, Kan.; two nephews and two nieces, and a host of other relatives and friends.
