AGANETHA (WIEBE) GOOSSEN

Aganetha (Wiebe) Goossen, daughter of Dietrich and Elizabeth Wiebe, was born April 2, 1880, near Hillsboro, Kan. Here she attended the elementary schools.

As a young woman she recognized her lost condition and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. On May 7, 1899, she was baptized upon confession of faith and united with the Krimmer Mennonite Brethren Church for fellowship.

On February 15, 1900, she was united in holy matrimony to our father, Dietrich Goossen. This union was blessed with nine children, four sons and five daughters. One daughter, Agnes, died in infancy, while Helen, Mrs. Ewert passed away in 1948.

The parents made their first home near Hillsboro, but in 1904 they moved to Oakley, Kansas. A year later they returned to Hillsboro. In 1906 they moved to the pioneer community of Hooker, Okla. Here they spent about two years and then again returned to Hillsboro. In 1942 they moved to Reedley, Calif., where father passed away in 1947.

Mother suffered a great deal in her life. However in all of this she had a steadfast faith in the Lord and carried on a consistent life of prayer especially interceding for her children and grandchildren. Psalm 91 was always a special comfort to her heart.

About a year ago she moved to the Reedley Home for the Aged. Here she was quite happy and content. However, she gradually grew weaker and Monday morning, Aug. 15, about 12:30, the Lord called her home to glory. Almost to the last hour she spoke to us and testified of an open gateway to heaven and looked forward to meeting her Lord. We rejoice that she could he delivered from her suffering. She reached the age of 80 years, four months, and 13 days.

The following children remain to mourn her passing: Four sons, Dick, Albert, and Elmer, all of the Reedley-Dinuba community; and Sam of Fresno; three daughters, Louise, Mrs. John Hiebert, Hillsboro, Kan., Regina, Mrs. Fred Roger, Portland, Ore., and Esther, Mrs. Arthur Jost, Reedley; one sister, Mrs. John B. Dick, Reedley, and one brother, J. D. Wiebe, Hillsboro. Besides these there are 21 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

The memorial service was held Thursday, August 18, 10:00 a.m., in the Mennonite Brethren Church of Reedley, with Rev. Dan Friesen and Rev. David Wiebe officiating.
