— Henry P. Goertz, 81, of North Newton died Monday morning at the Halstead Nursing Center when he had been a patient for some time. He was a former long-time resident of the Durham community where he was a prominent farmer and president of the Durham bank. Survivors include his widow, the former Selma Jantz; sons Willard of Wichita, Ben of Durham, and Dan of Fresno, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Bernice) Albrecht of Claremore, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bethel College Mennonite Church, of which he was a member.

— — The funeral services of Henry P. Goertz, 81, of North Newton were held last Saturday afternoon at the Bethel College Church, with Dr. Lloyd Ramseyer and Rev. Esko Loewen officiating. Mr. Goertz died Oct. 19. at the Halstead Nursing Center. He was a former resident of Durham where he operated a hardware and implement business and was president of the Durham State Bank for many years. He was also president of the school hoard and a member of the city council there. Five brothers and three sisters survive, in addition to family members listed in last week’s Review. A son-in law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Paul Albrecht, were on a tour of Europe at the time of his death but Mrs. Albrecht was able to come for the funeral.

HENRY P. GOERTZ

Henry P. Goertz, son of Rev. Peter and Maria Unruh Goertz, was born on Nov. 15, 1888 at Inman, Kan.

He was baptized by Rev. Abraham Ratzlaff on June 7, 1908 and became a member of the Hoffnungsau Church. In 1924 he transferred his membership to the Brudertal Church at Hillsboro, Kan., and in 1960 transferred his membership to Bethel College Mennonite Church of North Newton.

On March 15, 1914, he married Selma Jantz of Hillsboro, Kan. They shared a happy life for 56 years. They were blessed with five children: Elsie Funk, who passed away in 1955, Willard and wife Leona of Wichita, Dan of Fresno, Calif., Bernice and husband Paul Albrecht of Claremont, Calif., and Benjamin and wife Anna Mae of Durham, Kan.

He also leaves 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; five brothers, John of Moundridge, Kan., Jacob W. of Newton, Kan., Herman J. of British Columbia, Frank of Carnduff, Sask., and C. P. Goertz of Ogallala, Neb.; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Schmidt of Waldheim, Sask., Mrs. Martha Ewert of Rosthern, Sask., and Mrs. Frieda Kehler of Winnipeg.

Henry Goertz spent a great deal of his life in the hardware and implement business at Durham, Kan. He was also active in his community where he held the office of director of the Durham School Board and served as president of the Durham State Bank.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in the Bethel College Mennonite Church with Dr. Lloyd L. Ramseyer and Rev. Esko Loewen officiating. Burial was made in the Haven of Rest Cemetery, Hillsboro.
