— Word has been received that Jonas J. Goering, 63, well-known farmer of the Moundridge community, died unexpectedly Tuesday while driving a pick-up truck about one and a half miles west of his home. He was on the way to a field to pick up hay bales when the truck veered off the road into a ditch, and the body was found slumped over the steering wheel. Funeral services were announced for Thursday afternoon at the Eden Mennonite Church.

— Funeral services for Jonathan J. Goering, 65, well-known Moundridge area farmer, were held last Thursday afternoon at the Eden church and were largely attended. [note: two lines of text reversed in original] Rev. Arnold Nickel officiated. Mr. Goering died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon. He is survived by his widow, Katie, seven sons and four daughters, among them Mrs. Delbert V. Preheim of Newton.

Jonathan J. Goering, son of Jacob J. and Anna Schrag Goering, was born July 21, 1894, near Moundridge in McPherson county, Kansas, in the home where he lived all of his life. He received his early education at Pioneer primary school and also at Bible school. He attended the Moundridge Preparatory School and Bethel College.

He was baptized by Rev. C. J. Goering on June 20,1909, on confession of his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior and became a member of the Eden Mennonite Church where he remained a faithful member to his death.

On Nov. 26, 1914, he was married to Katie Zerger with whom he was privileged to share life's joys and sorrows for over 43 years. To this union 12 children were born. All survive to mourn his departure. They were all present at the funeral except Donald who is serving in Viet Nam under Mennonite Central Committee auspices.

He loved and enjoyed music and singing and was a member of the Eden church men's chorus from its beginning and for many years.

He loved the soil, was always interested in its conservation, and was interested and active in community affairs.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, always having the welfare of his family at heart. He sought the best for them, providing the best education for each that he could. He regarded an education as the best tools whereby they could serve their fellowmen. He was a friend of children and always found time for them. His grandchildren will especially miss him.

Death came suddenly in the form of a heart attack about 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, while driving a pick-up truck hauling bales from field to barn.

Mourning his departure are his widow, Katie; his children and their husband and wives, Meta and William Juhnke of Lehigh, Elmer and Linda Goering of Moundridge, Mary Ann and Delbert Preheim of Newton, Lora [sic Laura] and Reuben Krehbiel of McPherson, Harvey and Viola Goering of Worthington, Ohio, Philip and Delores Goering of Los Angeles, Calif., Reuben and Mabel Goering of Buhler, Emil and Lavina [sic LaVina] Goering of Kansas City, Kansas, Marjorie and Marvin Stucky of McPherson, Donald and Loua Goering of Banmethout, Viet Nam, Marlo and Patricia Goering of Kansas City, Kansas, and Clyde of the home; and 34 grandchildren. One grandchild died in infancy, the only death in the family prior to his passing.

He attained the age of 63 years, 10 months and 13 days.

Also surviving are four brothers, Dave and Jacob of Moundridge; Christian and Henry of North Newton; one sister, Mrs. P. S. Krehbiel of Hutchinson; five brothers-in-law and seven sisters-in-law; and one aunt, Mrs. C. J. Goering of Moundridge.
