• Funeral services for Christian S. Goering, 71, retired farmer of Moundridge, were held Friday forenoon at the Eden Mennonite Church with the pastor, Rev. Arnold Nickel, in charge. Mr. Goering died Oct. 26 at Mercy Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of the Moundridge community. Surviving are his widow, the former Marie Kaufman, three daughters, three sons, his stepmother, Mrs, John J. Goering, eight brothers and four sisters. Mrs. Vern Graber of North Newton is a daughter, and Mrs. Martha Smith of North Newton, a sister.

Christian Samuel Goering, son of John J. and Fresina (Freni) Schrag Goering, was born on March 23, 1894, on a farm near Moundridge, Kan. He attended Pleasant Ridge Grade School and graduated from the Bethel Academy in 1920. He was baptized on confession of his faith in Jesus as his personal Saviour by Rev. C. J. Goering, on June 20, 1909, and became member of the Eden Mennonite Church where he remained a faithful member until his death.

On Dec. 8, 1920, he was united in marriage to Maria Kaufman with whom he shared life's joys and sorrows for nearly 45 years. This union was blessed with six children, three sons and three daughters.

His deep faith in his religious experience was reflected by his regular church attendance and his support of the programs of relief, missions, peace, and education of the General Conference Mennonite Church. He was an industrious, resourceful, hard-working farmer. Even more than in farming, he was interested in the spiritual and moral tone of the home, the church, and the school. He was concerned for his children and their families and prayed for their welfare daily. His grandchildren were a continuous source of enjoyment for him.

He enjoyed excellent health for 67 years, but faced his sickness and death courageously and without complaint. The many days spent on a sick bed brought to him a more thorough awareness of Christian virtues in the people around him. He gladly answered his Saviour's call for his eternal presence with Christ on Oct. 26, 1965, at the age of 71 years, seven months, and three days.

Survivors include his widow, Marla; three daughters, Della and her husband Verne Graber of North Newton, Erna and her husband Harvey Stucky of Moundridge, Lois Beth and her husband Ray Ediger of Buhler; three sons, Olin and his wife Ruth of Moundridge, Homer and his wife Dorothy of Moundridge, Gene and his wife Janet of Hudson, Mich.; and 15 grandsons and five granddaughters; also his mother, eight brothers, four sisters, five brothers-in-law, ten sisters-in-law, and many friends.

The memorial service was conducted by Rev. Arnold Nickel on Oct. 29, 1965, at the Eden Mennonite Church.
