— Peter C. Goering, father of Mrs. C. B. Goering of North Newton, died at 6:00 p. m., Monday, June 26, in the Mercy Hospital at Moundridge, where he had been a patient for many weeks. Grandfather Goering reached the advanced age of 86 years and was of the few remaining pioneers who immigrated to McPherson county from Russia in 1874. Funeral services were held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Eden Mennonite church, with Rev. S. J. Goering of North Newton in charge. Surviving descendants include one son, six daughters and a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

PETER C. GOERING

Peter C. Goering, son or Christian D. and Katrina Strausz Goering, was born in Kotasufka, state at Wolhynia, Russia on September 4, 1863, and died June 26, at 6:00 p m., 1950, at Mercy Hospital Moundridge, Kansas, at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 22 days. He suffered much the last 15 years and often expressed his desire to be with the Lord.

He received his early training in Russia and at the age of 11 years emigrated [sic] with his parents to this country in 1874, where he endured all harships [sic] of pioneer life. He was baptized on confession of faith and received into the Hopefield church.

Later when the Eden church was organized, he was one of the charter members. He served some time as trustee and many years as Sunday School teacher. On May 28, 1886, he was united in holy matrimony with Ann Waltner, with whom he shared joys and sorrows for over 55 years. She preceded him in death over eight years ago. This union was blessed with 10 children, 3 sons and 7 daughters of which 2 sons and 1 daughter preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his departure 1 son, 6 daughters, 1 daughter-in-law, 5 sons-in-law, 46 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren. One son-in-law, 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren preceded him in death. He also leaves 3 brothers, 1 sister, 6 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law and a host of friends who mourn his departure.

Surviving children are: Mrs. J. S. (Maria) Kaufman, Moundridge; Mrs. C. B. (Adina) Goering, North Newton; Mrs. Felix J. (Kathrine) Krehbiel, Elyria; Mrs. Benj. B. J. (Anna) Goering, Paul P. Goering, Mrs. Martha Schrag and Mrs. E. M. (Mathilda) Krehbiel, all of Moundridge.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 28, at 2:30 o’clock at the Eden Mennonite Church west of Moundridge, Kansas, with Rev. Sam Goering officiating. Interment was in the Eden cemetery nearby.
