— Word was received this week of the death of John A. Goering, 86, well known retired farmer of the Pretty Prairie community who died in a Hutchinson nursing home Sunday morning. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Jacob J. Graber of Pretty Prairie and Mrs. Katie Stucky of Newton. Funeral services were to be held Tuesday afternoon at the First Mennonite church of Pretty Prairie.

JOHN A. GOERING

John A. Goering, son of the late Andrew and Anna (Wedel) Goering, was born at Freeman, So. Dakota, December 20, 1876.

As a youth he came to Kansas with his parents and the rest of the family. He was baptized and received into membership of the First Mennonite church of Pretty Prairie, Kansas, by the late Rev. J. J. Flickinger, August 28, 1896. He lived on the home place until about 1938, and then made his home with his brothers and sisters. Later he went to different homes for the aged, the last being the Waters Convalescent Home in Hutchinson, where he died Feb. 22, at the age of 76 years, two months and two days.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Katie Stucky, wife of the late Adolph Stucky, and Frances, wife of Jacob J. Graber; 28 nieces and nephews also survive. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the home of a sister, Mrs. Jacob J. Graber, Feb. 24, at 2:00 o’clock and at the First Mennonite church of Pretty Prairie at 2:30 p. m., with Dr. Howard G. Nyce officiating. He was assisted by Rev. P. A. Wedel of Goessel. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.
