MRS. JOE J. GOERING

Mrs. Joe J. Goering, nee Emma Schrag, daughter of John D. and Anna (Wedel) Schrag, was born May 24, 1900, in her parental home near Moundridge, Kansas.

She received her education at Pioneer Elementary School and the Bethel Academy. On May 30, 1915, she was baptized upon the confession of her faith by the Rev. J. W. Kliewer and received into the membership of the Bethel College Mennonite church, later transferring her membership to the Hopefield Mennonite church.

On Dec.26,1922, she was united in marriage to Joe J. Goering. To this union were born one daughter and six sons. One son, Merlin precede her in death.

The first years of her married life were spent on a farm near Galva, Kansas. In 1929 the family moved to Montezuma, Kansas, where they lived on a farm for six years and attended the Ebenfeld Mennonite church. In 1935 they returned to a farm near Galva and again attended the Hopefield Mennonite Church, later transferring her membership to the Eden Mennonite Church, where she remained a faithful member until her death.

The family will always remember her as a devoted and loving mother. Her keen interest in music and the work of the church was evident by the fact that she served as organist, Bible teacher, and committee worker in various churches and in the community. In spite of church and community responsibility she did not neglect the welfare of her family. She gave unselfishly of her strength and energy to provide every comfort for her husband and children, who will always remember her as a kind and humble person.

For the past several years she had been in failing health. During this time of suffering and often intense pain many of her friends who came to see her were personally challenged by her strong faith and unfailing courage. The outward smile on her face was a reflection of the peace and joy in her heart. In spite of all medical care she passed on to her eternal rest on the morning of June 8, 1957, at the Mercy Hospital, having reached the age of 57 years and 15 days.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband; five sons, Marvin and Kenneth of the home, Virgil and Melvern of Galva, Duane of Canton; one daughter, Margaret, Mrs. Walter Schrag; one son-in-law, three daughters-in-law; seven grandchildren; four sisters; three brothers; and a host of relatives and friends.
