• Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, Oct. 3, at the First Mennonite Church of Christian, Moundridge, for C. H. Goering, 80, well-known retired banker there. He died Oct. 1 at Mercy Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Goering was president of the Citizens State Bank for many years. He was the father of Waldo A. and Dr. Robert C. Goering of Moundridge and Rev. Paul Goering of Wichita, and brother of Herbert, Albert and Clarence J. Goering of Newton.

CHRISTIAN H. GOERING

Christian H. Goering was born on March 24, 1883, in Moundridge, Kan. to Joseph C. and Anna (Wedel) Goering. He was the eldest of 13 children, one of whom died in infancy.

He attended the public schools in Moundridge and one year at the Bethel College Academy in Newton, Kan.

He was baptized on confession of faith in Jesus Christ by Rev. Valentine Krehbiel on April 10, 1898 in the First Mennonite Church of Christian, Moundridge, and remained a member of this congregation until his death on Oct. 1, 1963, following a brief illness.

When 17 years old he began working in the Bank of Moundridge. Later when the Citizens State Bank was organized by his father and others in 1904, he became cashier in the new bank. He worked the remainder of his working years with this corporation and was elected president for about 30 years until his retirement in1961.

Among his business, church, and community interests were the following: he was an organizer and president of the Moundridge Cooperative Creamery Assn.; he served for many years on the City Council of Moundridge; he was elected to various responsibilities in his local congregation, to the Board of Business Administration of the General Conference Mennonite Church, and to the Board of Directors of Bethel College. As one of his last endeavors he helped organize and establish the Memorial Home for the Aged in Moundridge.

He was married to Selma Bachman on Sept. 12, 1915, with whom he lived until her death on March 12, 1961. They had three sons, all of whom survive him: Waldo A. Goering of Moundridge, Paul L. Goering of Wichita, Kan., and Robert C. Goering of Moundridge.

Other survivors include four brothers, John E. Goring of Moundridge, Herbert A. Goering, Albert A. Goering and Clarence J. Goering, all of Newton; and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Waltner of Freeman, S. D., Mrs. Anna Graber and Mrs. Esther Krehbiel of Moundridge, and Mrs. Edna Hoffman of Neodsha, Kan.

Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. Ralph K. Weber, in the First Mennonite Church of Christian on Oct. 3, 1963.
