ASTA WEDEL GOERING
Asta Wedel Goering, daughter of Peter H. and Katarina Schrag Wedel, was March 21, 1887, on a farm near Moundridge, Kansas.
She was baptized on confession of her faith on May 18, 1902, by Rev. C. J. Goering, and became a member of the Eden Mennonite church. Her Christian faith and endeavors were always foremost in her mind. These were expressed in her constant concern for the welfare of others.
She was united in marriage on April 18, 1907, to Jacob P. Goering. They were privileged to share life’s joys and sorrows for 48 years. This marriage was blessed with nine children, Marvin, the firstborn, at the age of twelve, and Alida, in infancy, preceded her in death.
For the past several years Mrs. Goering had been failing in health, and in spite of all medical care, on the morning of Sept. 3, 1955, she passed on to her eternal rest at the Bethel hospital.
Surviving members of his family include her husband and seven children: Marie, Mrs. Alvin Schrag of McPherson; Elma, Mrs. Harold H. Goering of Moundridge; Wilma, Mrs. Joe Krehbiel of McPherson; Celia of the home; Viola, Mrs. Harvey Goering of Columbus, Ohio; Milton of North Newton; and Myron of the home. Also included are four sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, thirteen grandchildren, five sisters, two brothers, ten sister-in-law, and ten brothers-in-law.
Her children will long remember her kind and humble spirit. The welfare of her family was one of her greatest concerns. She was very keen to sense the desires and needs of her husband and children and gave unselfishly of her strength to provide their every comfort.
The memorial service conducted by Rev. Peter J. Dyck, Monday, Sept. 5, 1955, at two o’clock, from the Eden Mennonite church. Music, sung by the Eden Mennonite Men’s Chorus. Mrs. Joe Schrag at the organ.
Her resting place, the Eden Mennonite Church cemetery.
