ANNA K. GOERING
Anna K. Goering, daughter of Peter P. and Freni Strausz-Kaufman, was born August 8, 1875, near Moundridge, Kansas. it was here that she received her grade school instruction, which was very limited.
She received catechetical instruction and was baptized by Elder Jacob Stucky upon confession of her faith and received into the Hoffnungsfeld (Hopefield) Mennonite Church on Oct. 27, 1889. When the Eden church was organized later she and her husband transferred their membership to this church. Here she remained a faithful member until her death.
On April 5, 1894, she was united in marriage to Jacob A. Goering with whom she shared life’s joys and sorrows for 56 years. They were blessed with four children, one son and three daughters. In April 1949 they were privileged to celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary.
Her husband preceded her in death in April 1950, and her daughter, Ruth, in March 1954.
Mother was deeply concerned about the spiritual welfare of her children and grandchildren, and daily remembered them before the throne of grace. Her cheery disposition and her sociable nature won her many friends with whom she enjoyed visiting. Even though her health had been failing for the past ten years, she was as active as her health permitted her to be.
On Sunday morning, June 10, she attended church services as usual. In the afternoon while attending a birthday celebration in the home of one of her brothers, she took ill suddenly and was taken to the Mercy Hospital at Moundridge. Even with the best of medical care she passed away the same evening. She reached the age of 80 years, 10 months, and two days.
She leaves to mourn her departure one son, Ed; two daughters, Hulda, of the home, and Mrs. Clarence Schrag; one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, six grandchildren, one grandson-in-law, five sisters-in-law, two brothers and many other relatives and friends.
